Our Vision
IS 584 is launched based on the expressed vision of the families in our community. Our school will hold its students to high academic standards through Science/Technology/Engineering/Arts/Math (STEAM), and project-based learning.
We will foster an environment that encompasses our students, parents, teachers, support staff and administration actively participating in the educational experience of every child in our school.
Active participation entails the administration and teachers clearly communicating the expectations and responsibilities of our school community and the students and parents meeting these expectations. Mutual trust and respect given and received by all will play a major role in this dynamic. Respect for each other and truly valuing our time together will only help our school run smoothly ensuring for a caring, clean, orderly, and safe learning environment.
Our Mission
The mission of IS 584 is to provide our students with the academic and personal foundation necessary to successfully pursue advanced studies and attain personal growth as global citizens. Our school will create a demanding, socially conscious environment that involves students, parents, teachers, staff and administration actively participating in the educational experience of each child. Our curriculum of study will be infused with STEAM, Project-based Learning and Dual Language (in the 6th & 7th grade). We will encourage the intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, creativity and problem solving skills of our students, which will enable them to face our diverse society as confident lifelong learners and leaders fully prepared for the 21st century.
IS 584 will:
-
provide a place where students feel comfortable, safe and accepted.
-
promote open communication between home and school, encouraging teamwork and cooperation.
-
acknowledge and celebrate the achievements of our students, their families and staff in our learning community.
-
focus on increased student achievement with instructional methods that reflect current research and proven effective classroom practices i.e.: STEAM, Projects Based Learning and Dual Language.
